Helpful tips for finding a home in the Wisconsin
Mississippi River Valley
Finding a home in this area of Wisconsin is not
like looking for a home in a big city. The small communities
of Maiden Rock, Stockholm, Pepin, and Alma each have a
unique personality and their own history.
Read about the history of the Mississippi River Valley towns
and villages, and access the town and village Web sites.
Enjoy the Process
Most persons who buy a property along the
Mississippi River and Lake Pepin corridor, do so after several
visits, or even after several years of experiencing the area.
Spend some time exploring the shops in the Villages. Ask the
shop proprietors for recommendations in the area.
Get off the main streets to see what lies
beneath the surface. Leave the main highway and “get lost” on
the back roads of such valleys as Bogus Valley, Rush River,
Hicks Valley, 16th Creek, Lost Creek, Plum Valley,
to mention a few. Talk with the local residents to learn how
friendly and welcoming they are.
Relax and Investigate
Throughout the Mississippi River Valley
corridor you’ll find a plethora of unique shops, not the same
old fudge stores you see in most tourist trap areas. There are
also many fine and unique eating establishments where you can
find everything from a hamburger to gourmet fair at indoor and
outdoor casual dining spots. Many appealing motels, B & B’s,
and cottage style facilities are available to provide you with
modern and very relaxing overnight accommodations. And if
you’re an RV enthusiast, check out the wonderful campground
facilities in nearly every municipality.
If you're coming from the Twin Cities and want to make advance
reservations, here are some
local
resources in Maiden Rock, Stockholm, and Pepin for lodging,
food, shops and services.
Find
a Local Realtor
Work with a local realtor who knows the people
and the area AND the history. Many of the properties in this
area are for sale by owner and are not listed in the MLS. Only
a local realtor will be able to tell you about those
properties.
Linda was born and raised in the Village of
Pepin. Her father was a riverboat captain on the Mississippi
river for 25 years. David has been in the area since 1972 and
was a teacher in Pepin High School for over a decade. Both
have traveled the world and have been employed in careers
outside of the area. And both have elected to return. Together
they are owners of the Lake Pepin Area Office of Century 21
Premier Group. Both of them, or their acquaintances and many
friends, will be able to answer most any question you can
think of.
Contact the Lake
Pepin Area Office of Century 21 Premier Group and meet
realtors who live and work in the area and have an interest in
seeing it grow and improve. The more you learn, the more
you’ll love the area. Most people who visit don't want to
leave. As one Village says in its brochures:
“Come for a night
and spend a lifetime”.
